Dr. Drazen Jurisic, Associate Professor

Education:

Drazen Jurisic was born in Nova Gradiska, Croatia where he finished a secondary school specializing in mathematics and informatics. He was a student of Electrical Engineering at the University of Zagreb in Croatia where he received the Bachelor's degree in "Industrial Electronics" in May 1990. The thesis was "Active RC-filter with band-pass characteristic".

After graduation he joined the Department of Electronic Systems and Information Processing (ZESOI), at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University of Zagreb as assistant. At the same time he pursued a Master of Science program in Electrical Engineering in the field of "Electronics" and he earned the Master's degree in October 1995. The thesis was "Fault analysis of analog networks using fault dictionary".

In the presence of the international defense committee, he earned the Ph.D. degree in April 2002. The thesis was "Active-RC filter design using impedance tapering". The results given in the thesis were presented and published on the most distinguished international conferences and journals. He was rewarded with the Silver plaque "Josip Loncar" for a very successful doctoral thesis.

In 2002 he was elected as Senior Assistant, on December 15th, 2005 he was elected to the grade as Assistant Professor and on July 11th, 2011 he was elected as Associate Professor. Dr. Drazen Jurisic is given the scientific record no. 180050.

He speaks English and German languages.

Scientific Projects:

From 1997 to 2002 he worked as a researcher on the project "Distributed Systems for Design and Process Control", no. 036-034; and from 2002 to 2007 he worked on another project "Distributed Systems for Analog and Mixed Signal Processing", no. 0036-003; and since 2007 till nowadays he is researcher on the project "Systems for Analog and Mixed Signal Processing", no. 036-0362214-2316. All three projects are supported by the Ministry of Science, Educations and Sports (MSES) of Republic of Croatia on the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing at the University of Zagreb, with principal investigator Professor Neven Mijat.

He is supervisor of one Ph.D. student who also joined the project "Systems for Analog and Mixed Signal Processing".

International Scholarships and Scientific Cooperation:

From July 1997 until March 1999 he was with Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zürich, Switzerland as holder of Swiss Federal Scholarship for Foreign Students (ESKAS). He participated in research of low-sensitivity, low-noise, low-power active-RC filters led by Professor George S. Moschytz.

After forming a joint grant for scientific cooperation between Republic of Croatia and Republic of Israel, as scientist-researcher he visits School of Engineering, Bar-Ilan University (BIU), Ramat-Gan, Israel and since November 2008, he visited BIU several times in the total time of 12 months. In the whole period since November 2008 till nowadays he continuously cooperates with BIU on research projects.

Scientific Activity:

His current research interests include analog and digital signal processing and filter design. In the field of analog signal processing he researches sensitivity optimization, noise, dynamic range and power consumption of electrical filters, as well as, tuning of filter characteristics and the problem of stability. He also researches theory and algorithms associated with various fault location techniques in electrical circuits with emphasis on electrical filters.

Drazen Jurisic has published several papers at domestic and international conferences and journals.

Teaching Activity:

His teaching duties included participation in FER-1 program undergraduate courses on Network Theory and Filters and Filtering Amplifiers as younger assistant, assistant, senior assistant and assistant professor. He was co-author of the script "Laboratory Exercises" in the course of Filters and Filtering Amplifiers.

He participates in FER-2 program of the study "Electrical Engineering and Information Technology" in undergraduate courses of Electrical Circuits (he is lecturer in charge of the course) and Signals and Systems as assistant professor and associate professor.

His teaching duties include participation in graduate course Analog and Mixed Signal Processing (he is lecturer in charge of the course). He is also co-author of the script "Laboratory Exercises" in the courses of Electrical Circuits and Analog and Mixed Signal Processing.

He introduced two new postgraduate courses Electrical Filters in Power Systems and Synthesis of Systems Based on Optimization Methods (he is lecturer in charge of both courses).

Professional Activity:

He is author of one professional project realizing complex computer program (CAD) for elliptic filters design and he was co-author of several other professional projects.

Other Activities:

He is a member of professional associations KoREMA and IEEE-CAS Society. As a volunteer of the IEEE association he is president of Circuits and Systems-CAS 04 Chapter of IEEE Croatia Section since September 2008.

He is manager of module and profile "Electronic and Computer Engineering (ERI)" – final and diploma students' projects.

He is member of presidency and treasurer of AMAC ALUMNI-FER organization.
